Unlimited Web Space

Posted by lilsis2 on January 27, 2009

Is unlimited web space (also referred to as disk space) really unlimited? All web hosting packages indicate how much “web space” you will be allotted for your website depending on the package.  Web space is measured in megabytes, or MB.  How many free MB’s indicates how many megabytes of space you will be sharing with other customers on the web hosting companies main shared servers.    So, in a sense there is not “unlimited space” but probably ample space for you to build any type of website you need.

The next logical question is how much disk space do you need?  Probably not more than about 5 MB but there is a formula to help you determine how much web space you may need.

Number of pages in site x .05MB= MB of web space you need

A single page should not be more than about .05MB to ensure your users will not be waiting for long periods of time for your page to load.  Unless your page has a ton of photos or streaming audio/videomedia it shouldn’t be larger than .05MB.  Even if you build a website with about 50 pages you wouldn’t need more than 3-4 MB’s, but add a bit to leave you room to grow.

IX Web Hosting Review

Posted by lilsis2 on January 19, 2009

I recently had a friend who was looking at different web host providers and came across an IX web hosting package for $3.95 a month.  She called me to verify that she was getting a good deal from a good company.  In my review of IX’s web hosting package I found it is packed with features and also includes FTP access and 1 dedicated IP address.  Currently hosting over 350,000  websites IXWebHosting is by no means a new name to web hosting.  Their $3.95 plan includes more than even the following features:

  • Host Multiple Unlimited Domains
  • Unlimited Disk Storage
  • Unlimited Data Transfer
  • Unlimited Sub Domains
  • 1 Free Domain Registration
  • Free Site Builder
  • Free 24/7 Phone, Email, and Ticket Support
  • 50 MySQL and 50 Postgre SQL
  • Ecommerce Ready
  • 2500 Email Accounts
  • Pop3/IMAP/Webmail
  • Email Forwards and Autoresponders
  • Mailbox Quota 2 GB
  • PHP/PERL/CGI-BIN
  • Free Shared SSL Certificate
  • SSL Secure Server
  • International Domain Name Support
  • FTP Access/Anonymous FTP
  • FrontPage Extensions

I also found that for just a few dollars more IXWebHosting offers a package that includes 2 domain name registrations, 8 dedicated IP address, 100 MySQL, and 5000 email accounts.  They also run on Windows, Mac OS, and Linux.  There are a lot of added value in these few things.

You can click here to check out or sign up for these packages yourself.

Affiliate Programs

Posted by lilsis2 on January 12, 2009

You have probably seen websites which have tabs or links to “affiliate programs“.  Some of you may have ignored them knowing if you don’t know what they are they must not apply to you and others may have wondered just what an affiliate programs is and how they work.  If you are part of the more curious people keep reading to find out just what an affiliate program is, how it works, and if it is something you want to participate in either as a business or as a marketer for a business.

An affiliate program is a partnership between a web based business and people or businesses who want to refer people to their website for some types of referral fee.

The business decides how much they would be willing to pay people who refer people to their site, this is usually either a flat fee or a percentage of the sell.  They then set up an “affiliate program” where people can sign up to be part of the referral/marketing system.  The business will then assign them a “tracking link” which is  a link the referral people will place on their website which when clicked on will point the customer to the businesses website.

Once the customer has clicked on the link to the business owners website there is a “cookie” which follows the IP address of the customer.  If that customer purchases anything with a certain amount of time (varies per affiliate program) then the business owner will pay the agreed upon amount back to the person who provided the “tracking link” for the customer.  Both the business and referral company are able to track the affiliate sales.

Affiliate programs can be very lucrative for both the business offering the affiliate program and the people who participate in pushing business to their website.  It’s really a win-win situation as the business is drawing in customers without paying high prices for advertisements or marketing solutions and the people dedicated to driving business to the websites are able to make money online simply by putting links on their site to the business.
